[26/04/2011] Some Simple Tips To Prevent Fall from Scaffold

Scaffolds or ladders are the temporary arrangements, which are made for reaching a height which is not connected with stairs. It might be required at home, in school, office and even in construction sites. Scaffold offer user the safety and functions that they require while working on heights. Therefore, taking note of some simple suggestions to prevent fall from scaffold is worth.

Erecting the Scaffold
When you need to work on scaffolds, you should erect the entire structure carefully. Before climbing the scaffold, you should check out whether it is locked properly or not. If the scaffold wheels are not locked properly and the joints are not fixed in the right way, you may experience a fall while working on it. These types of mistakes are common for domestic users as they do not have the practice of using scaffolds and ladders every day.

Stability of the Scaffold
Before climbing up and starting work on the scaffolds, you should ensure that the scaffold is placed on a stable place. Erecting the scaffold on an uneven place or sloping area increases the risk of slip and fall from the scaffold. When using scaffolds in construction site, you should also ensure the place where you have decided to erect it is stable enough and have the ability to take its weight. Else, it may lead to a fatal accident.

Weather Conditions
This is also another important factor to be noted while doing any scaffolding job outside. Whether it is painting the outside wall of your house or using scaffold to work in a construction project, weather should be given importance. Working in rainy days is not a good choice as the ground remains wet and the risk of accident increases. Scaffolds should always be placed on a dry area.

Keep the Area Clean
When you are working on scaffolds, you should make sure the area adjacent to the scaffold is free from any buckets, stools, chairs etc. This will allow the user some working space. Even if he trips from the scaffold, he will have some walking area to get some balance and prevent severe injury. Never ever keep any sharp object close to the scaffolding area.

Maintenance
Last but not the least, take care of the maintenance of the scaffolding board and other parts of the scaffold. Replace the part, which is not in proper condition and diminish the risk of scaffold accidents while working.
