[07/06/2010] Fixed ladder

The fixed ladders are attached permanently to a building or another structure and are used for reaching frequently accessed areas and are commonly made of aluminum, stainless steel, or fiberglass.

The fixed ladders have a few basic components, namely: rungs, side members, stand-off brackets, and cages. Each one of these elements has to comply with safety regulations and standards: the space between two rungs should be no more than 12’’ and the stand-off brackets must be at least 7’’ longer than any obstruction on the back of the ladder. The stand-off brackets are used for clamping on the ladder rings. The side members are the rails that are placed on each side of the ladder and prevent slippage, while the cages are commonly found in fixed ladders and increase safety.
